Fleet Director | Fairfax County Police Department

Akbar Rahyab is the Director of Fleet Management for the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD). It all started with some hot wheels, remote control cars, and tonka trucks and evolved into passion for all things cars, trucks, and equipment. Today it’s a fleet of police cars, tomorrow it might be a fleet of Moon rovers, the passion and goals are endless. Akbar has been a fleet professional for the past 18 years, his career in fleet has taken him all over the world, 8 years as a logistics director for a military contractor who specialized in heavy equipment and armored road vehicles, 6 years owning a fleet of car carrier trucks, and 4 years as public sector fleet manager. In his current role he directs a fleet of 1,450 units for the FCPD. His team has reduced the amount of time it takes to upfit a police vehicle by 20 hours on average, since taking over the fleet for the FCPD. He Introduce Microsoft’s Power BI platform into the fleet management division and help create multiple dashboards for commanders to have daily insight into the fleet. These small changes translate into real world differences in officer and community safety. While serving as the Fleet Manager for the Stormwater Division of Public works in Fairfax County, he facilitated the reduction of the amount of salt used during winter storms by 50% using the latest technology available for their trucks and equipment. During his spare time, he loves to spend time outdoors with his family, and is always working on a car project in his garage with his father and two sons who he shares a love of cars with.
